Match report
28/11/21
Bohermeen U13 finished out their season at home against a tough Johnstown side who dropped from the premier league early in the season and managed to top the 1st division. This encounter was always going to be tight with the top two teams meeting in the season finale. The visitors took advantage of some early indecision in the Bohermeen defence and took the lead in the 1st minute. That early goal left the Bohermeen defence looking vulnerable and in the 5th minute Johnstown doubled their advantage. The home side now settled at the back and started to win some possession in the midfield battle as Evan Moyles, Sean Keogan, Nathan Casserly and Martin Keane worked hard to push forward and support the front three of Kian Fitzsimons, Eoin Larkin and Hayden Fitzsimons. All of the best Bohermeen attacks were coming down the right side however the final pass was just missing and some strong defence by Johnstown was keeping Bohermeen out until they finally had success in 15th minute when Martin, Kian and Hayden combined on the right side before Hayden delivered to the box where Eoin Larkin was waiting to score the goal that the home side’s efforts deserved. Bohermeen continued to push down the right side threatening for an equaliser but a dangerous tackle on Martin Keane ended his game 10 minutes before halftime and took the momentum out of the home side’s attack. Sam Wall came in on the right and worked hard to keep that pressure on the Johnstown defence. Despite being on top Bohermeen we’re unable to get level before the break and any attacks were now being well managed by Cian Loughran, Eoin Fitzsimons and Captain Alejo Rogers. Behind the back three Jack Fitzgerald when called upon was showing his excellent shot stopping and composed as always to deal with breakaway attacks from the visitors.
Bohermeen started the 2nd half in the ascendancy and were attacking with purpose with Hayden, Eoin and Kian being kept to half chances and long range efforts as Johnstown worked hard to hold on to the lead. The addition of Aaron Farnan in mid feild helped build strength for the home side. In what can only be described as a frantic half neither side were able to add to the first half scores and the final whistle signalled a defeat for the home side but promotion to the premier league for both sides. This most definitely was a game that got away from Bohermeen but the team performance was again excellent and the season was a success for the players, parents and coaches.
