Bohermeen Celtic v Johnstown FC
Bohermeen Celtic v Johnstown FC
Johnstown were the visitors to Derek Brady Park for a game that would see the home side crowned league champions with a win or a draw. However a Johnstown win and it would go to the last game of the season to see who would win the league. It was a fine sunny morning and the pitch was in fine condition despite the heavy rain it had during the week. Some early morning sweeping and forking had it looking good and playable.
It was clear from the off the Bohermeen lads were in no mood to let the title slip from their grasp, and with a good high press Evan Moyles forced the mistake in the Johnstown defense and finished to the net 1-0 with 3 mins gone. Johnstown to their credit battled hard and always looked a threat going forward. However the solid back four of Tré Jones, Colin Duffy, Matthew Hegerty and Nathan Casserly were well organized as always and never looked under pressure in dealing with anything Johnstown threw at them. On 25mins an Evan Moyles corner was brilliantly headed home by Jack Dolphin to make it 2-0. Bohermeen's midfield of Kian Fitzsimons, Sean Ennis, Jack Dolphin, Jack Reid and Evan Moyles were in fine form with some lovely passing and link up play. The introduction of Martin Keane, Hayden Fitzsimons and Finn Nolan brought fresh legs to the home sides attack. After some good work from Finn, his pass found Hayden who made no mistake in finishing past the keeper, 3-0. Bohermeen now really playing with confidence were hungry for more goals, and the next 1 was a cracker, from the hard working Sean Ennis, who fired a left footed shot curling away from the keeper into the net 4-0 on the stroke of half-time.
Half-time 4-0 Bohermeen Celtic
2nd half started and it there was no let up from the home side who now had the league trophy well in their sights. Another corner caused problems for Johnstown and Finn Nolan headed home to make it 5-0. The huge crowd who had come out to watch this game were been treated to an exhibition by the impressive Bohermeen Celtic. Martin Keane, Jack Kane and Sean Keogan now brought more strength and stability to the rampant home side. Just after the hour mark another corner not dealt, and a bullet of a header from Martin Keane to make it 6-0. The ever busy Charlie O’Brien was causing all sorts of problems for Johnstown at the back and he was unlucky not to get on the score sheet, however his hard work was leading to most of Bohermeens chances. A poor goal kick from Johnstown was punished by the impressive Hayden Fitzsimons who fired the ball straight back into the net. A Tré Jones cross was flicked on by Charlie and Finn was on hand to grab his 2nd. With time running out the excellent Martin Keane went on a run and when he got to the edge of the box, he fired an unstoppable shot to the net, all the keeper could do was watch as it flew past him. Credit to Johnstown they never dropped their heads and after some good play they were awarded a penalty for a clumsy foul in the box. Keeper Jack Fitzgerald who had a quiet afternoon made a great effort but couldn't keep the ball out as Johnstown got a consolation goal.
An excellent performance from Bohermeen Celtic who dropped just 5 points all season and are now deserved Division 2 Champions 🏆.
